USING THE CONCEPT OF LIGHT AS INSPIRATION, I DECIDED TO GO WITH IT’S ANTITHESIS DARKNESS TO CREATE A BOARD GAME.
This is a project I would love to come back to as well. After writing the briefs for this section I realized the TOYS+GAMES section was the most fun I had designing, but also some of the hardest projects I’ve done that each need more development and time put into it. For this project specifically, the theme of the project was centered around hacking, and getting into and out of a mainframe. This was created in the time after the pandemic and the goal was to get people to get back to socializing around the table with a good board game. The original goal was to have this game be played by up to 20 people, mixing traditional board games with a party game, but it didn’t end up getting to that point and that thought was too ambitious for a few months. I incorporated the concept “darkness” into the theme by having this be a game of deception. There’s an option to play either cooperatively or competitively and players have that option throughout any given game. The goal is to get out of the mainframe before you get locked in by a firewall and caught. Players roll a dice to move and can pick up keys and items to help them or hinder the other players. Like previously stated, this project still needs a lot of work to go into it, but I was able to make a digital version of it in Tabletop Simulator and I was very excited with how it came out.
